Luxury Vehicle Preparation

Luxury Vehicle Preparation for International Shipping

Shipping a luxury, exotic, classic, or high-value vehicle requires careful preparation. These vehicles often have expensive finishes, low ground clearance, specialized electronics, custom components, and significant financial value. Proper luxury vehicle preparation helps reduce the possibility of damage during pickup, loading, transportation, unloading, and final delivery.

Before the carrier arrives, wash the exterior of the vehicle thoroughly. A clean surface makes it easier to identify scratches, dents, chips, or other existing imperfections. After cleaning, photograph the vehicle from several angles, including the front, rear, both sides, wheels, interior, and any existing damage.

Remove Personal Belongings

Remove personal items, valuables, toll passes, portable electronics, documents, and accessories that are not permanently attached.

Loose objects can move during transportation and may damage the interior. International carriers may also have restrictions regarding personal belongings stored inside vehicles.

Check Tires, Battery, and Fluids

Make sure the tires are properly inflated and the battery is secure and functional. Inspect the vehicle for oil, coolant, fuel, or other fluid leaks.

A vehicle with a serious mechanical problem may be rejected by some carriers or require special handling.

Do not fill the fuel tank immediately before shipment. Usually, only a limited amount of fuel is needed for loading and unloading. Exact requirements should be confirmed with the transportation provider.

Choose the Appropriate Shipping Method

Luxury vehicles can be transported by enclosed truck, ocean container, Ro-Ro service, or air freight.

Enclosed transportation provides additional protection from weather and road debris during inland transportation. Container shipping can provide an enclosed environment for international ocean transport.

For extremely valuable or time-sensitive vehicles, air freight may be considered, although it is significantly more expensive.

Prepare the Documentation

International vehicle transportation may require the original title, bill of sale, identification, export information, customs forms, and other documentation depending on the country.

Have documents prepared before the scheduled pickup date.

Proper luxury vehicle preparation protects the automobile and helps the transportation process move efficiently. Provide your freight forwarder with the vehicle year, make, model, condition, origin, destination, and preferred schedule when requesting a shipping quote.
